When I first watched UP this year, I remember crying buckets of tears and laughing hysterically. I was skeptical about the film and how a story about an old man in a house propelled by balloons would be inspiring. So, I sat there with my husband and two year old son with no expectations.
Simply put, UP is about 78-year-old balloon salesman Carl Fredrickson, who fulfills his lifelong dream of a great adventure when he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilds. He is joined by Russel, an eager and optimistic eight-year-old Wilderness Explorer boy scout whose main goal is to help an elderly to get his final merit badge.
But it’s actually so much more. It’s the unfinished love story between Carl Frederickson and his beloved wife, Ellie, dealing with loss and moving on to fulfill a lifelong dream. It’s perfect for grown up couples who will identify with the love between Carl and Ellie and it’s also perfect for kids because of the colorful adventure sequences and the tons of balloons and strange animals from Paradise Falls.
The film has been generally loved by both the audience and the critics. Since its release, UP has received very positive reviews from critics. As of October 17, 2009, Rotten Tomatoes reports that 98% of critics gave the film a positive review. The film also holds a score of 88 on the review aggregator website Metacritic as of August 1, 2009. Film critic Roger Ebert awarded the film four out of four stars.
So on one free weekend this December, stick in some popcorn in the microwave, call in the kids and have an UP movie night. It’s a story that won’t grow old.
UP is now available in DVD and VCD format at Astrovision / Astroplus, Odyssey, Video City and SM Record Bar nationwide. The DVD retails at P750 and VCD at P275.

Our dream adventure is for all of us (my hubby, me, our 3 daughters ages 9, 3 & 6mos.) to go to the U.S. and visit all the theme parks there like Disneyland, Disney World in Florida, Legoland, etc. That would be a wonderful experience.

My family dream vacation is for us to travel around the Philippines together. I believe it is important for my kids to learn about our own culture, people and history even at an early age. I want my kids to see for themselves the things that they would usually just learn and see in textbooks and postcards. Exposing them and letting them explore the wonders of our country will make them proud of themselves as Filipinos. They would also learn to appreciate our own tourist spots and postcard-perfect views, and will surely patronize our products more than imported ones when they grow old.
My family's dream adventure is to visit Manaoag church again and then, go to a beach in Alaminos. You see, me and my partner vowed to visit the church again if the Lady of Manaoag would hear our prayers and bless us with a strong family and healthy kids... and she did. Now, I have a bubbly daughter, I'm pregnant with twins, and I have a hubby who loves us so much.

My husband and I was planning for an overseas leisure last year when I found out that I was pregnant. I had a failed pregnancy prior to that so we don't want to take a risk and scrapped our trip abroad. My little one will turn 1 in four months time and it would be a blast if the three of us could have our dream vacation either in Malaysia or Singapore. It will be my first overseas trip and it will be more special if I share the experience with my baby Charles :-)
It's never too late for everybody' dream. The spirit and p*ssion on reaching goals is what we need. It's a matter of how you try to succeed, if we failed, the journey has just started. My family's wish is so much simple than anybody does. We want a house with a big tree outside where we could built a tree house. That's it, a tree house!
