Throw a birthday bash that will celebrate both your child’s milestone and new beginnings with a Chinoiserie-inspired theme, just like what mom Mia Cenzon did for her daughter Arie’s first birthday last year.

Arie’s party was a collaboration between Mia and event designer Bambi Hernandez. Mia started out with a mood board, and Bambi took the reins in helping translate Mia’s vision into a more cohesive concept. “Bambi put together a wonderful dessert area that featured my daughter’s milestones, as well as a ‘tree’ of Chinese lanterns that had great visual impact.” The collaboration resulted in many surprising elements, Mia’s favorite being the ghost chairs - “they gave the Chinoiserie party a more modern and unique twist.”

“I wanted a birthday theme that was chic, feminine, refined, and unique,” says Mia, who has always been a fan of anything French Oriental. “I’ve always loved cherry blossoms and birdcages, so  I thought a Chinoiserie theme would give  my daughter’s party the right mix of girly and frilly and  a more minimalist and streamlined design.”

“Even though I knew my daughter wouldn’t remember this day, I wanted her to see photos of a party that was beautifully-executed and different from the usual,” Mia says. “I’m not a huge fan of ‘kiddie’ parties so I took Arie’s first birthday as an opportunity to mount an event that was kid-friendly but appealed to adults as well.”
