Cecile Devaux of Bonggak Pastries
By Emilie N. Lucena
Name of Mompreneur: Cecile Devaux
Her Business Idea: Bonggak Pastries is an offshoot of my original business Bonggak Party Needs. I make fun and elegant fondant cakes with a personal touch. I called my business Bonggak since it is my nickname.
How it all started: I don’t work and started to think of ways to earn a bit of extra income for my family. I started to make invitations since I enjoy doing graphic design. One day, I decided to bring cupcakes to a baptismal party. To my surprise, I started getting orders. That’s how Bonggak Party Needs started. I gradually added to my list of products and services. It grew through referrals and I eventually set up a Multiply account so I could promote my business and get more customers.
I very recently started Bonggak Pastries by setting up a kiosk in SM City, Calamba, Laguna just this month. I sell purely fondant cakes through this kiosk. I’ve been baking since high school and last year, I went to France to study how to bake French pastries. This fuelled my desire to put up Bonggak Pastries. My business is unique because I offer personalized designs for fondant cakes and cupcakes. My customers can come to me with an idea and I execute it accordingly. I make their dream cakes come true.
Future Plans: I still bake other types of cakes but only sell these through my Multiply account, not through the kiosk. Among my specialties are French-style tiramisu, strawberry cake and chocolate mousse. But I want to focus now on my fondant cake business. I want to eventually hire someone to help me make the fondant. Teaching someone to bake is easy but making fondant is an art, especially making the cake-toppers. One has to have a bit of an artistic inclination.
