    As a mom, it's instinct to put the needs of your family first. Taking care of yourself almost always takes effort. You need constant reminding. Here are the little things you can do for yourself to improve your physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

    1 Get enough sleep
    Getting enough Zzzs can work wonders especially on your skin since it repairs your cells when you’re in deep slumber. “During a good night's rest, your body works to remove dead blood cells and dead brain cells, and clears the pathways for new synapses to take place so that new blood and brain cells can replace old ones,” says sleep expert Rebecca S.     2 Work out
    When you exercise, your body releases endorphins or popularly known as the "happy hormones." Although it could seem like a tiring task to do, exercising can actually help reduce anxiety and improve your mood. Aside from that, it also has other health benefits such as lowering blood pressure, protecting against heart disease and cancer, and boosting self-esteem. 

    3 Stay positive
    Don’t let bad circumstances get the best of you! Focus on the present and let go of past instances that have hurt you or memories that bring your mood down. According to a new study published online by the British Journal of Psychiatry, having a positive outlook can reduce symptoms of stress and depression and promote wellbeing.

    4 Indulge in a little bit of retail therapy
    And yes, we mean shopping! Hitting the mall and buying a few things help ease mild depression and make you feel more confident—but you have to be careful! April Lane Benson, author of I Shop, Therefore I Am: Compulsive Buying and the Search for Self, says you still have to be conscious of your shopping habits so that it won’t lead to a spending problem.

    5 Read a book
    Whether that’s a short story or a novel, reading can be beneficial to your health and state of mind. According to research, reading on a regular basis keeps the mind sharp as it ages.  Also, reading fiction in particular makes for more creativity and a more open mind.

    6 Unplug
    Take time to disconnect from the online world. Seeing and knowing everything on social media can be stressing and overwhelming. It’s best if you set aside your phone and laptop for a while to give your mind (and sanity) time to rest.

    7 Take a vacation
    It doesn’t matter if it’s just a simple road trip or an hour in the spa, what’s important is you get to unwind away from your usual daily grind. Exposing yourself to a new environment can help refresh your focus and may even boost your creativity! Plus, everyone deserves a break!
