  • Valentine’s Day is coming up! If you don't have anything planned, we get it. All the restos will probably be full, there's traffic to contend with, and there is work the following day. A movie at home sounds like a better idea. Or, here's another suggestion. Set aside a weekend before or after Heart's Day and plan it around these alternative date night ideas:

    1. See hot air balloons

Turn Valentine’s into a real treat and head to Clark, Pampanga for the Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta. Expect hot air balloons, aerobatic exhibitions, paragliding, skydiving, radio-controlled aircraft and lots of on-ground activities. While you can bring the kids, you should know you can purchase tickets to ride a hot air balloon! It’s all happening on February 9 to 12 at Omni Aviation, Clark, Pampanga. Entrance is P300. Click here for more details.

    2. Go on a hike together

Get out of the city and into the great outdoors! An adventure with your partner can bring a new spark into your relationship. Who knows, this might just be your new favorite activity to do together. New to the mountains? Check out Trail Adventours. They have several hikes scheduled every weekend for beginner to experienced hikers. There’s one for newbies on February 12 hiking to Mt. Pundaquit and Anawangin Cove.

    3. Try improv theater

Bored with the above? Here’s something completely different. Love Labs is a show that’s improvised, unscripted and unrehearsed. So, more than just watching a show, you can relate and connect with performers as they share their take on relationships, love, and life. It’s happening on February 11 at The PARC Foundation, San Juan. Ticket price is P300. Click here for more details.

    4. Sip wine and paint

For always-on-the-go parents, a relaxing night out is the perfect Valentine’s date idea. Stay for a while at Sip and Gogh while you drink wine, try your hand at painting and spend quality time with your loved one. Kids are welcome to join too. Sound interesting? Register for a session before Feb. 10 with the promo code “grabngo” to get 10% off. Sip and Gogh has branches at Eastwood, Ayala Heights, Kapitolyo, Alabang, Atalier and Century Mall. For more details, check out their website here

    5. Visit an aquarium

Illuminated by the soft glow of Manila Ocean Park’s aquariums, watching marine life swim by can be a romantic date idea for just you and the hubby or a fun one for the whole family. On February 14, they have a Heart's Day special package for P799, which includes a buffet, comedy show, mermaid show, Valentine tokens and souvenir photos (see details here). Date expenses are cheaper for residents of Manila with a special promo just for them on sale until February 26 (see details here). Manila Ocean park is located at Rizal Park, Manila. Regular tickets start at P580.

    6. Go ballroom dancing

Know how to waltz? Put your dancing shoes on! For Valentine’s Day this year, hold each other close and sway your hips to ballroom music. Society Lounge in Urdaneta, Makati has ballroom nights every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. For info, call 218-4935.

    7. Go to a concert

If you’re looking for more romance, consider Bituin Escalante’s #SoMuchFeels concert which is also called “Kung May Love Story Ka, Eto ang Love Concert Mo” happening on February 10 and 11 at the Music Museum, San Juan City. Featured artists include Cris Villonco, Yanah Laurel, Kim Molina and JC Santos. Tickets start at P1,200. Get them here. You can also check out Valentine’s concerts by Gary V.Aegis, and The New Minstrels and The Company. Because what’s more romantic than holding hands with the love of your life while being serenaded with super cheesy songs, right?
