"For a change, let's have a quiet weekend," I told my family. I didn't mean staying at home. We headed to one of our favorite family friendly mall hangouts: Powerbooks Megamall. It has something for everyone. Who doesn't love books? At Powerbooks, there's more than just that.
Arts and Crafts Activity Corner The kids race to the Art Center. It's an arts and crafts activity corner where they can find a wide choice of nifty things to do that keep them quiet and busy for hours. They can assemble, paint, decorate and personalize their own canvas bag, shoe bag, mask, cork boards, hats, vase, trinkets, kits and more. They can choose their own materials or get the packed set. They can take a break in between projects and enjoy the books at the children's section. They are free to sit anywhere while they enjoy the books. The price for the crafts set is friendly on a parent's pocket so they can do more than just one piece of artwork while Mom and Dad sink their noses in pages of new (and old) book releases.
Friendly Service Can't find your book? Ask any approachable staff member and they will radio each other to find it, or recommend another similar read. If they don't have it, they can reserve the book for you once their stock arrives.
Book Launches, Book Events Sometimes, we chance an ongoing lecture. They have a spacious activity area for seminars, book launches and book events. If you're lucky, you'll get a freebie. This activity area, when the store is not busy, turns into a "library lounge" where customers can stretch and enjoy their finds.
Coffee and Munchies at Nero Café Feeling hungry? No need to leave the place. There's Nero Cafe where they serve a variety of tasty snacks and drinks. For a coffee and book lover, time stops when you're here. Mom and Dad can't just drop a good book in the middle of the story so we end up purchasing. With a filled tummy, good books and lovely crafts all in the bag, my family usually goes home happy.
Powerbooks is located at G/F Bldg. A, SM Megamall Ortigas Complex, Pasig City.
