There are a thousand concerns and worries running in a new parent’s head each minute—how long will baby sleep this time? I’ve fed him, burped him and changed his diaper—what could be causing him to cry so much?
Since your baby is still adjusting to life outside of Mommy’s womb, it always helps to make him feel safe and secure by recreating the coziness he experienced in utero.
One of the most comforting things a mother can do for her child is to leave her scent within smelling proximity. Since baby can’t really see clearly yet, and relies mostly on his olfactory and auditory senses to feel Mom or Dad’s presence, you may want to try this handy trick.
Sleep with baby’s blanket for one night so that your scent clings to the fabric. The goal is to have Mom’s familiar scent nearby so that when baby falls asleep, he won’t feel as startled or anxious when he wakes up without Mommy by his side.
This comes in handy when moms don’t sleep beside their baby and instead places him in a crib. It’s worth a try, don’t you think? Let us know if it works for you!
