Before building and moving into her new home in Quezon City, Kris Aquino lived in a bright and welcoming country-cottage-inspired haven in the same city. The property is dominated by white and happy colors -- a far cry from the Makati condominium units before.
The renovation of the spacious abode took three and a half months and involved a lot of changes, taking into consideration Kris’s needs and feng shui beliefs. “Ang vision nya kasi is parang it’s more of the Hamptons, ‘yong classic na country home na perfect for the family,” shares interior designer Rossy Yabut-Rojales of Heim Interiors. The Hamptons is famous for its villages and seaside communities. It is also a go-to summer destination for New York City residents.
While we can make a list of the things we love in the cheerful space, we can’t help but notice the fresh blooms that liven up the common areas. Kris has a fondness for flowers and it’s evident in how these are displayed around the house. Aside from these colorful additions, the house also boasts of a backyard, a vertical herb garden, and a lovely bougainvillea garden where she and her loved ones can relax and take a breather. Here are more easy ideas we can learn from this home:
Tulips are best admired in open spaces where their beauty can stand out. Take your cue from Kris’s simple setup by placing it on top of a piano, a console table, or on a side table in the living area.
Choose a clear tall vase so that even the stems will be appreciated.

Experience al fresco dining without stepping out and leaving the comforts of home. Liven up the dining table by opting for a floral centerpiece. Blooms in rich colors like orange, purple, fuchsia, and green can turn your dining area into a cozy nook reminiscent of English gardens.
Tip: For a long-lasting setup, you may look into having faux flowers instead of fresh blooms. The Landmark, Makati has a nice selection of floral accessories and dÃcor you can check out.
If summer is your favorite season, you can use it as inspiration in decorating your living area. In Kris's space, yellow was used as the main accent color as seen on the pillow covers and area rug.

Double up on the sunny vibes by choosing flowers in orange and yellow as part of a vignette you can set up on the coffee table. Work with vases in varying heights and display your favorite coffee table books to make it more interesting.
Sprucing up the kitchen? Display some fruits in clear bowls and pair it with a slim (almost invisible!) vase to make the petals stand out. This easy vignette can give your cooking area a laid-back, country vibe.
Outside Kris's sprawling home is an outdoor area teeming with different plants. Inspired by actress Bea Alonzo, who grows her own herbs at home, Kris had a wall-mounted herb garden put up in her backyard.
