All-year long, each day revolves around the children and their needs. Mother’s Day and maybe her birthday are the only days she is finally given the recognition and attention she deserves. Don’t let it pass without doing something to make her feel that she is doing a spectacular job.
If you’re a mom and you’re reading this, don’t sit around and wait for things to happen. Sometimes you need to take matters into your own hands for the fun to take place. (Like maybe e-mailing this article to your hubby so he could take a hint!)
Listening to music and watching a performance is a surefire way to have fun. This year, Kuh Ledesma and her daughter Isabella are staging a special Mother’s Day concert on May 6 and 7 at the Music Museum. Naturally, the songs at the concert will have a mother and daughter theme. A perfect way to begin the celebration! Call Music Museum at 721-6726 or 721-0635.

2. Hotel Hop
No doubt, each hotel will have special treats for all the moms. Dusit Thani Manila, however, is going all out with what they call their own “amusement land” where parents and children will be entertained by a moving statue, clown, juggler, balloonist, and glitter tattoo artists. At the same time, there will be a Kids Activity Area that will surely keep the children occupied while Mom can have her nails done at the lobby or watch a summer Mother and Child fashion show (a great place to get ideas on what to shop for next!). At the same time, from May 8 to 10, Moms get great deals on rooms for the ultimate pampering experience! Checking into a hotel might just be the ticket to a relaxing day for Mom. Call Dusit Thani Manila at 867-3333.

3. Be Artistic
Or at the very least appreciate art. Catch a Mother’s Day Art Exhibit and other fun art activities such as making origami and paper flowers, a photo booth, and other drawing activities at SM The Block on May 8 by the students of Global Art. Offering an international creativity and art program designed to systematically develop creative thinking and visual art, Global Art Katipunan may be reached at 621-8707 and 545-4115.

4. Be a Mall Rat
Most malls will definitely hype up this special holiday, but if you want lots of freebies and activities, take a trek to the Power Plant Mall at Rockwell Center. To set the mood, a father-son duo will serenade guests at the Concourse Level. From one to seven PM, the North Court will be transformed into a huge activity area where families can decorate bangle bracelets and make their own memo boards and shopping totes. At five PM, Shu Uemura will be giving a beauty workshop (and you can win free makeovers and products!). Special treats will also be given out by Shu Uemura, The Spa, Dorothy Perkins, and Trucco. Families who love to just hang out at the mall will love all the surprises that this day will bring. If you want more details, you can call 898-1702.

5. Stay In!
Relieve Mom of the cooking stress by making her meals the whole day—and the rest of the family’s too of course. Start with breakfast in bed, work your way to lunch, then throw a fabulous dinner. Plan out the menu with your kids and make sure you serve Mom’s favorite dishes. You can even enlist some of her friends to help. They’ll be glad to be of assistance! Turn dinner into a mini party and have each family member read Mom a wish or a line of gratitude. Take photos and compile everything into a scrapbook. Don’t forget to include the wishes and words of thanks. Make this a Mother’s Day she’ll always treasure.
