The 88th Academy Awards are done, and it was not without its share of controversies. But here's how we'd like to remember the 2016 Oscars, the 5 moments this year that prove the awards show can be a family affair.
1. Tom Hardy's wife pumped breast milk!
The Revenant actor and his wife Charlotte Riley were one of the amazingly beautiful couples on the red carpet this year. Not with them during the event was their newborn whom they welcomed last year. They have been pretty tight-lipped about their baby, not even revealing the baby's gender. But now we do know that Riley had to pump breast milk at the Dolby Theater restroom (seriously, we need breastfeeding stations everywhere!). Tom Hardy revealed to The Los Angles Times that she had to pump every hour.
This is not the first time we heard about this. Scarlet Johansson and Adele have done the same thing in the past. Props to the moms who successfully juggled breastfeeding and a glam date night.
The kid actor from the movie Room stole the headlines in the Oscars this year by simply being adorable. For starters, Jacob Tremblay's car selfie with his (very good-looking) parents is enough proof that the Oscars are also for families. He also wore Star Wars cufflinks and Darth Vader socks! Plus, every photo-op he’s had with the celebrities are way cute!
It's not only the Tremblays who made the Oscars a famil affair. A lot of grown-up celebrities also brought family to the event. Leonardo DiCaprio, who finally won a golden statuette, brought his mom as his date for the fourth time! Chris Evans brought his sister and brother. Rooney Mara brought his dad. Pixar's John Lasseter brought his handsome son.
3. Chris Rock and his daughter's girl scout cookies.
“I’ve been away from my two daughters at a very important time in their life. I have missed most of the Girl Scout cookie season," Chris Rock explained in an interview. That's why during the show, he asked the stars to reach into their pockets and shell out some cash to buy girls-scout cookies—and the stars did not disappoint. The girl scouts were able to raise a whopping $65, 243.
4. Baby bumps galore!
Soon-to-be mom celebrities showed off their very pregnant bellies to the event. Chrissy Teigen wore a figure-hugging gown that had to be sewn in after putting it on. Other expecting stars such as Emily Blunt, Eddie Redmayne's wife Hannah Bagshawe, and even Anne Hathaway who attended a pre-show party, rocked fabulous preggy-friendly gowns at the show.
Jacob Tremblay geek-ed out when the Star Wars Droids C-3PO, R2-D2, and BB8 dropped by to celebrate composer John William's 50th Oscar nomination. Reese Witherspoon and Jared Leto also had their moments with the droids.
Everyone was delighted to see Toy Story's Woody and Buzz Lightyear and the Minions when they showed up to present the awards for best animated film and best animated short respectively. (And Inside Out won!)
We can't wait for next year's awards season. What was your favorite Oscars moment?
