March 27: Switch Off Your Lights for Earth Hour Philippines
Join the entire world this March 27, 2010, switch off your lights and teach your child the value of the environment as all once again powerfully communicate the urgent need for climate change solutions.
At exactly 8:30 p.m. on March 27, 2010, switch off your lights and join the biggest environmental event in history, Earth Hour, as the whole world extends a message of the need for climate change solutions.
Worldwide, over one billion in 88 countries have been inspired to switch off their lights once a year for Earth Hour. In 2009, an estimated 611 MWH of electricity was conserved – this is like shutting down 12 coal-fired power plants for an hour.
Now on its third year, Earth Hour Philippines hopes to gain the participation of 15 million Filipinos, to turn off their lights for an hour in recognition of the event’s environmental advocacy.
Earth Hour is an annual effort of WWF-Philippines, he Department of Energy (DoE), Green Army Network and SWITCH Movement. 2010 partners include Ipanema, Century Tuna, Sustagen, Philips, Motolite, Meralco, SM Malls, Ayala Malls, Bonifacio Global City, GMA-7, ABS-CBN, Infinit-1 Communications, ECC International, Dig It All, Friendster and Discovery Channel.
