Add another to the list of companies stepping up their parental benefits “A” game.
Right behind the heels of Netflix’s new “unlimited” parental leave is Microsoft, also with parental benefit upgrades for its U.S. corporate employees.
“As we ask our employees to bring their “A” game to work every day to achieve our mission, we believe it’s our responsibility to create an environment where people can do their best work. A key component of this is supporting our employees with benefits that matter most to them,” said Kathleen Hogan, the company’s executive vice president for human resources, in a statement detailing their updated company benefits.
Previously, the company offered eight weeks of fully paid maternity leave. In addition, they also offered 12 weeks parental (for both moms and dads) leave and out of the 12, only four were paid and the remaining eight were unpaid.
Starting November 1, the 12 weeks parental leave will all be fully paid which brings the total to 20 weeks of fully paid leave for birth mothers. Plus, they’re offering two weeks of leave before delivery date “to manage the physical impact that often comes with late pregnancy and to prepare for the upcoming birth,” said the statement.
New parents can opt to take their leave in one go, all 12-weeks, or split their leave into two periods. Once back in the office, they can also choose to work on a part-time basis.
The company said that they’ll be reviewing the benefits being offered in Microsoft offices all over the world as well.
