At 12:35 am of July 27, the 100 millionth baby in the Philippines was born at the Doctor Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital.
The baby girl, named Chonalyn, was born to parents Clemente Sentino and Dailin Cabigayan. The child will receive a starter kit of basic needs worth P5,000 and lifetime Philhealth benefits.
In an interview with rappler.com, Juan Antonio Perez, executive director of the Commission on Population, said, “This is both an opportunity and a challenge…an opportunity we should take advantage of and a challenge we recognize.”
According to estimates by the Philippine Statistics Authority, three babies are born each minute in the country.
