    5. Scientist invent malaria-resistant mosquitos
U.S. scientists may have invented the solution to eradicate malaria with a genetically-modified mosquito that can resist the infection. The University of California team took a type of mosquito found in India and injected a resistance gene in the mosquito's DNA, so their offspring also inherited the same resistance. Scientists hope that the same method they used to create the malaria-resistant mosquito could also be applied in other species of mosquitoes around the globe. Current reports put half of the world's population at risk of malaria. (bbc.com)
