Here’s Day 6 to Day 12 of the article 12 Days to Christmas:

Day 6, December 19

Plan a birthday party – for Jesus!

This would most probably be a big hit with your kids, especially the little ones! This year, teach your kids about the real reason for celebrating  Christmas in a really fun way – after all, everyone loves a birthday party – and this time, your birthday celebrant is super-special: the “King of Kings” and “Lord of Lords,” God Himself!

Step 1:

Gather all the members of the family and tell them that you’re having a party on December 25 – but not your usual Christmas party. Instead, explain to them that it’s a birthday party that you’ll be throwing – for Jesus! (The little kids will LOVE this, for sure!) Take this time to explain the Nativity in simple words and phrases, and show the kids pictures of Jesus as a baby or little boy for added effect. (You can easily find such images on the Internet!)

Step 2:

Plan the party with your kids – it need not be complicated, as you can just keep it as a family affair. Alternatively, if you really want to go all out, why not invite extended family members and close friends to join in the celebration? Even if you choose to do this, your birthday party for Jesus could still be simple (I’m sure He’d appreciate your frugality and simplicity, himself being born in a manger and all!)

Everyone could bring a potluck dish to share, and your birthday décor could consist of just a “Happy Birthday Jesus” banner and homemade “bandaritas” made out of recycled gift wrapper and magazines.
Get the kids involved in making and sending out the party invitations (use recycled materials, or better yet, send e-invites). They can also help in making the party decorations, like these “Names of Jesus” paper chains. Older kids can help prepare party games and/or activities for the younger kids (Click here for ideas for Jesus’ birthday party activities, games, and so much more!). You can also ask the kids to help you bake a birthday cake for Jesus and prepare the food you’ll be serving. (For ideas on birthday cakes for Jesus, click here.)
