Wonderworld bbq setI am a huge fan of Wonderworld toys. If I could buy them all for my little girl, I would. They’re a little pricey, so if you’ve got a tight budget, you have to choose well. I really like this particular one because my toddler loves to play with cooking toys. She already has a little plastic stove, microwave, and play-dough ice cream-maker, but she always goes back to this barbecue set.

The wooden and soft pieces work very well together. Among the wooden parts is the griller, which opens up and becomes a storage container for the rest of the pieces. Plus, it has a knob that can be adjusted according to how high the imaginary flames should go. Of course, every barbecue picnic needs a barbecue stick (well, more than one usually, but too many might be a tad overwhelming) and the food that gets skewered onto the kebab. Very interesting are the soft green pieces, which I assume are chopped green vegetables (maybe leeks?), because they can lock the wooden food pieces in place so they don’t fall off the stick.

As your child pretends to cook, she can also use the barbecue sauce as a marinade. There is a basting brush she can sweep over the skewered food chunks or wooden sausage. I also love the soft hamburger. It is composed of two buns, a lettuce leaf, a tomato slice, and of course the patty.
What makes this toy an even better buy is that it’s made out of safe wood and is environmentally friendly. The packaging is recycled and the company has an ongoing project that plants trees for every toy it creates.

I’ve also hung on to the box since it is nice and sturdy. But another reason I can’t toss it is because it’s now part of the toy! My toddler pretends that it’s the menu. She has me order off it (since all the pieces are shown on the box), then she grills me some barbecue. I can’t wait for the day when she’ll be serving me something I can really sink my teeth into. But for now, this pretend play is more than enough.
