Beauty at Any Age : 8 Cosmetic Treatments to Try
By Gretchen Agdamag, MD
Every woman must remember: you are a most extraordinary creation. Beauty is a state of mind and it begins with the knowledge that you are beautiful. It is true what they say that “when you look good, you feel good."
However, the strains of motherhood could take its toll on women. Because of the added responsibilities, many moms sometimes neglect to look after themselves.
Dr. Elizabeth Galang Kazemi, Medical Director of Kazemi and Associates Skin, Face and Body Care Center explains that “when a woman improves her looks, great things can happen. She becomes more confident, and this makes her look even better.” By improving her appearance, her outlook improves as well.
This Mother’s Day, Dr. Kazemi recommends the following non-invasive cosmetic procedures that mommies or even non-moms may want to try.
Oxygen Facial
Recommended for : dry, dull facial skin
In this procedure, a machine sprays atomized moisturizers onto the skin using a stream of pressurized oxygen, thus hydrating the skin immediately. The oxygen helps to exfoliate and cleanse for a healthy, rejuvenated skin. Furthermore, the oxygen plumps up the skin and diminishes fine lines. The procedure usually lasts for 60-115 minutes and is recommended every fout to siz weeks.
Approximate cost: Php 2,500 per session
Diamond Peel
Recommended for : rough facial skin, fine lines
Also known as microdermabrasion, this is a non-invasive skin resurfacing procedure which employs an abrasive substance, usually aluminum oxide, to gently exfoliate the uppermost layer of the skin - the epidermis. Benefits of microdermabrasion include the softening of fine lines and wrinkles, relieving clogged pores, improving dull or thickened skin texture, and smoothing and blending skin pigment changes. After the initial series, periodic treatments every three to four weeks are recommended to maintain the results.
Approximate cost: Php 2,500 per session
Skin Peeling (Glycolic Micropeeling)
Recommended for : Oily facial skin with dark spots
This treatment employs AHA (alphahydroxy acids) that accelerates the body’s natural process of skin sloughing to uncover the more hydrated and softer deeper cells. This “lunch hour peel,” so called because it only takes about an hour to do, has no down time and would show immediate softening of the skin.
Approximate cost Php 3,500 per session(face)
Mesotherapy
Recommended for : Body parts that have cellulites
Mesotherapy is the latest breakthrough for cellulite reduction. This is a safe procedure that involves the use of microinjections to administer medications into the mesoderm (middle layer of the skin) to allow the delivery of medicines to specific areas of the body. It also helps rejuvenate skin, improve skin tone, and decrease fine lines. For the right candidate, mesotherapy can be an excellent alternative to tumescent liposuction.
Approximate cost: Php 4,500/area per session
