Not all single moms–just because they’re single–dread Valentine’s Day, but they do have diverse ways of celebrating it. Some single moms out there would let this day pass by quietly, while some would go out and have fun. Understandably, it’s a case to case basis, since others may still be in the process of healing after a failed relationship.
But to those who prefer to embrace the joys of single motherhood, and forget the pains, here’s our Top 10 ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day:

1. Love for a cause.
Valentine’s Day is not only for couples in love, it can be a productive day as well for extending love to the needy through charities. Helping the underprivileged sectors of our society is everyone’s social responsibility. So making Valentine’s Day a day of charitable activities instead brings a different take on the essence of loving. Invite your family, relatives, or friends to share their blessings and get involved, and come up with a charitable affair on that day.

2. Popcorn and movie night
For a laid-back home activity, nothing beats popcorn-and-movie nights. What about a marathon of your favorite comedy or scary movies with your children, family, or single girlfriends? A great night of laughs and screams with the people you love–and love you back–lessens the pains of a broken heart and home.

3. Go classic.
A special dinner with family and friends is classic. Whether it’s Valentine’s Day or not, you can always have fun over a simple dinner. Throw a twist by asking each family member or friend to prepare their favorite dish. For the kids, you can simply ask them to set up the table.

4. Dance, boogie wonderland!
Gather up your single girlfriends for a night out–and dance till you drop! Check out the latest hot spot within your area. If you haven’t had the chance to party and enjoy life again after the failed relationship, this is the best time to recover the fun side of you. Besides, dance is a good de-stressor and exercise. If you’re not into dancing, go figure!

5. Karaoke is ok.
But if dancing is not your forte, why not go singing with your single girlfriends? There are hotels or entertainment centers that offer private karaoke rooms. Pitch in and rent a karaoke room where you can sing your heart out without worrying that someone may laugh when you’re out of key.

6. Ohh, baby, it’s a wild world!
Another fun thing to do with your single girlfriends is to throw a wild party–but with responsibility! Pretend you’re throwing a bridal shower to all the single ladies in your group, and invite a sexy male dancer to entertain you and your girlfriends while you drink and dine. Like what we said, a naughty party comes with responsibility, so stick to a clean fun.

9. Old rituals never die.
Read: flowers, chocolates, and love letters. Who says those old rituals should be undone, just because now you’re a single mom? There’s no stopping, as long as you’re happy doing it. But you can always put a little spin on these this year. For example, don’t wait for someone else to hand you these usual gifts on Valentine’s Day, instead go get it yourself! Buy a bouquet of your favorite flower, bring it home, and put it at the centerpiece of your dining table. Perhaps write a love note to yourself–thanking yourself how you made it all through the challenges of parenting, alone yet successful and happy. For the sweet-toothed mom, buy a box of the newest chocolate treats in town and share it with your child.

10. Pay it forward.
Otherwise, make someone else happy on this day. Why not send a Valentine gift to the dearest person in your life now, or to someone you know who is moping around after a failed relationship, like you were before? Helping someone else cope with breakups is priceless. You’ll soon realize how doing so makes yourself happy, too.
Life is so much fun, if you think less of the pain and dwell more on the blessings. Besides, what else can be the greatest joy and gift to a woman than having a child of your own? That alone is reason enough to get through Valentine’s Day.
