• Baby Taste Boosters

Start your tot to solids by delighting his palate with different tastes and encouraging mimicry.
  • Feed Me (Ages 6 months to 3 years)
When your baby starts eating solids, serve him a platter of assorted finger foods such as sticks of cheese, banana and apple slices, orange bits, ham cubes, etc.. While eating, say, “Can I have some?” and guide her hand to your mouth. Eat in an exaggerated and playful manner as you enjoy the gesture of sharing. Take turns feeding each other as you name the food and its particular taste.

In the book Brain Games for Preschoolers, Dr. Dorothy Einon explains how the “mirror” neurons of the brain “not only fire up when we do something, but also when we watch someone else doing exactly the same thing.” Copying other people’s actions and injecting play in their daily routine are among the most natural ways very young kids can learn.
