When watching a movie at the cinema, or even just our favorite teleserye at home, we sometimes become very engrossed in the story that we could forget the characters are merely acting out a role. Besides believable acting and a compelling production, one other element that gives us viewers the total experience is the musical scoring -- something we rarely notice on its own because it just blends right into every single scene, making us laugh louder, cry harder, or be terrified a wee bit more.
In a nutshell, this is what Francis Concio, dad of three, does for a living as a music producer. In his own words, "Music provides the sub-text of the material," and reveals nuances which the visual elements do not show. He composes original melodies and makes musical arrangements which help him create and bring a simple script to life.
Music is also a shared passion in his family: wife Carla is a songwriter, while daughters Julia and Talia have appeared in several musical performances in the country. It is so much a part of their lives that, at any given time, Francis can just strike the keys on his piano and the girls will jump right into the melody and sing along. "They see what I'm doing and they try to emulate what I do. I'm happy that I have that effect on them." He hopes that by loving his craft, he could also keep his children's interest burning, and see them grow up to become excellent musicians themselves.
