There’s nothing more exciting for expectant couples (mommies-to-be, especially!) than finding out if they’re going to have a baby boy, a baby girl, or even twins! From mittens, to booties, onesies and even receiving blankets, the baby’s gender predicts the next part that parents look forward to after baby comes out: buying baby essentials!
Baby showers have always been an exciting part of the whole pre-mommy celebration, and it’s also a way for the parents-to-be to get their fill of baby goodies which they receive as presents.
In the United Kingdom, however, another baby party is becoming a trend. Called “gender reveal” parties, couples ask their sonographer to keep their baby’s sex a secret, write it down and seal it in an envelope during the 20-week mark (the period wherein a baby’s gender can already be determined via ultrasound).
A trusted friend or relative who heads the plannning of the baby bash then orders a cake in either blue or pink sponge (depending on the baby’s gender), iced with a neutral color like white or beige to conceal the sponge cake color. Loved ones get together and guess the gender.
The highlight of the occasion is when the couple slices the cake. That’s when they get to see the color of the sponge cake and discover their baby’s gender!
