A study says that Omega 3 fatty acids from seafood help ease postpartum depression . While the U.S. federal government warns pregnant women about possible mercury contamination in fish, it still recommends up to 12 ounces per week of seafood consumption.
How does Omega 3 Fatty Acids Have Anything to Do with Depression?
According to Science Daily Omega 3 Fatty Acids are linked to the production of the neurotransmitter known as serotonin. It has been found that people with low levels of serotonin are more prone to depression and suicide. The same applies to postpartum depression. It’s essential that woman who is pregnant or who has given birth get a healthy dose of her Omega 3 Fatty Acids to make sure she’s happy and well.
Fish to Avoid
The U.S. federal government has warned pregnant women to avoid eating shark, swordfish, king mackerel and tilefish because they have a high possibility of having mercury contamination which is very dangerous for the baby.
