Many of us know what a double chin is, and this year the term "tech neck" emerged to mean the same thing. Why "tech neck?" Because spending so much time with your head bent down as you use your phone is sagging your skin and straining your neck. Because a number of us are beginning to have double chins (from phone usage and aging), here are ways to tone that area:

    1. Chin rotations
This tones the muscles of your jaw, throat, and neck. It should also ease neck and shoulder pain.

    - Sit or stand with your back straight.

     - Slowly and gently rotate your head, making full circles from shoulder to shoulder.

    - Make sure you keep your shoulders down and back.

    - That's one rep. Do five to 10 reps.

    2. Chin lifts
This also tones your jaw, throat, and neck muscles.

    - Stand or sit with your spine straight.

    - Tilt your head back until you're looking at the ceiling

    - Pucker your lips like you're about to kiss. Extend your lips as much as you can. Hold the position for five seconds.

    - Relax your lips and lower your chin.

    - That's one rep. Do five to 10 reps.

    3. Platysma exercises
The platysma is the muscle that extends from your jaw to your collarbones. Exercising it can help keep your chin area firm.

    - Sit or stand with a straight back.

    - Stretch your closed lips across your teeth.

    - Pull the corners of your lips down, like you're frowning.

    - Open your mouth slightly and flex the muscles on your neck and jaw. Think of yourself scolding someone.

    - Repeat five to 10 times.

    4. The O

    - Sit or stand with your back straight and shoulders down.

    - Tilt your head back until you're looking at the ceiling.

    - Close your lips. Relax them.

    - Keeping your lips closed, open your jaw so your mouth forms an O shape. Hold this position for 20 seconds.

    - Relax your mouth and lower your chin to starting position.

    - Repeat 10 times.

You'll get best results if you do these exercises every day and do some cardio as well. (Weight loss can help reduce the double chin.) You also might want to refrain from keeping your head bent for hours when you're using your phone.
