  • They say it is inevitable to put on weight when you become a mom — even celebrity moms like Mariel Rodriguez admit to being “fat” because they sacrifice so much for their children. With enough motivation, however, going back to your “pre-baby” body is possible, and we have inspiring moms who will prove it.

     This year, some of our most-read stories on SmartParenting.com.ph were about mothers who went through incredible weight loss transformations. From doing YouTube workouts, jumping rope, and waist training, they lost as much as 48 pounds and trimmed inches off their waistline!

    This mom lost 48 pounds thanks to YouTube workouts

    Mom Romina Amor Guerra has been overweight since elementary and she tells Smart Parenting that it has always been one of her biggest insecurities. She was at her heaviest at 156 pounds and says it was “morbid for my height, which is 5’1.”

    She immediately got pregnant a month and a half after her first child was born, so losing weight became even more difficult. But she finally found motivation after seeing other moms who were able to stay fit despite having kids.

    “Siyempre ayaw ko rin malosyang. So, I told myself, ‘After my second baby, I’ll work my ass off to have a slimmer body,” she told Smart Parenting.

    After cutting on sugary treats (a challenge since she was tandem feeding two toddlers), she started working out at home. YouTube channels like Fit by Amy and Emi Wong helped her a lot!

    “I work out four to six times a week. Short lang, 10 to 30 minutes, pero sobrang effective,” she shares.

    From a 36-inch waistline, Romina dropped down to 26 inches. She also lost 48 pounds and now she’s even thinner than her pre-pregnancy weight!

    Mom Ces Fernandez had attempted various ways to lose weight ever since she gave birth to her son, Dakila, 4 years ago. But she admits it was hard to maintain because “selfie lang ang habol ko to overcome my insecurities. So hindi malalim ‘yung purpose.”

    Thanks to her work, which involved thinking of health-related, fundraising events for the benefit of children, Ces was able to jumpstart her fitness routine. After participating in a “virtual run,” the mom started on a jumping rope routine after meeting a jumping/skipping rope player.

    According to her research, one can lose between 200 to 300 calories per 15 minutes of jumping. She was surprised that she lost weight so quickly — around 2 to 5 pounds a week!

    Ces jumps rope 5 to 6 times a week for a total of 35 minutes per day. She also complemented her workouts by eating in moderation and choosing healthier alternatives like consuming apple cider vinegar, virgin coconut oil, chia seeds, lemon water, green tea, and Manuka honey.

    This mom trimmed 5 inches off her waistline 10 weeks after giving birth

    If you’ve just given birth, you may be inspired by mom Florence Vergara, who was able to lose 20 pounds and have a slimmer waistline less than three months after her pregnancy.

    Her secret? A combination of self-discipline, breastfeeding, healthy exercise and diet, and waist training.

    Florence admits that she was motivated to lose weight after someone told her “wala ka nang abs,” while comparing her to actress Ivana Alawi. “I felt insulted — it had just been two weeks after I gave birth! I replied, ‘Kung abs lang, kaya kong ibalik ‘yan any time,’” she shares.

    Since Florence was athletic even before getting pregnant, she was already capable of doing light exercises on her fifth week postpartum. After six to nine weeks, she incorporated cardio workouts into her routine.

    She also credits her “postpartum recovery shapewear” or abdominal binder for shaping her “saggy” tummy into a tighter one. She started wearing it two weeks after giving birth.

    “It worked wonders,” the new mom gushed. “What I love about it is the compression — nafo-force ‘yung waist ko to form — and kahit hindi ako nag-e-exercise, normal movement lang and house chores, grabe ang pagpapawis ko. Just make it a habit to wear it every day.”

    Eleven weeks after she started her workouts, Florence already lost 12 pounds and she’s very happy with her body!
