Let's face it: we don't like exercising but we should, and the idea often pops up when a new year approaches. Running (and walking) has become like a go-to exercise you don't need a gym membership, fancy wardrobe, or equipment, and you can start tomorrow. You will need a good pair of running shoes though, which means shopping for a pair, and that is always a good motivator to pick up running (if it doesn't pan out then you've got good...traveling shoes!). Now how to choose?
There are different types of running shoes made for specific foot types and running categories. Choosing a pair of footwear that's a perfect fit for your feet could make a big difference in preventing all sorts of foot injuries, for starters, and also ensuring comfort while you speed away.
In order to choose the right running footwear, you first need to correctly identify your foot shape. Your foot type affects how your foot hits the ground when you run, and should be your first consideration when shopping for one. How to find out? Well, techincally you should go to a professional, such as a foot doctor, but you can also try taking your foot print (the easiest way, of course, is to wet the sole of your foot, step on a blank brown paper bag or heavy paper ). There are three types:
A person with high-arched feet means your feet don’t bend enough to effectively absorb shock when your foot hits the ground, making you prone to stress fractures and muscle strains.
People with a neutral or medium-arched feet means your ankle and foot are aligned, so your weight is evenly distributed from your foot to your heel. This type of foot is perfect for running.
Individuals who are flat-footed or low-arch feet means your feet arch collapses inwards when you plant your feet down. This makes you more likely to get bunions, calluses, and feel heel or arch pain.
For high-arched or medium-arched feet, remember to take into account your choice of trail when choosing your running footwear. Try these:
2016's Runner's World Editor's Choice Award, the Skechers Performance GORun 4, which is equipped with M-Strike Technology to promote a midfoot strike while offering cushioning and impact protection.
Skechers GORun Ride 5 has an extra layer of cushioning for additional impact protection and response, which is perfect for long or short distance runs. It has the same M-strike technology as the GORun 4.
Skechers GoRun Trail 3 is designed to be used on all kinds of terrain even wet ones. It's lightwieght, well-ventilated design, comfy cushioning system, and an aggressive traction system.
For low-arched feet, the shoe for you is one that can offer you stability, and you should also consider sticking to running on roads. Try this:
Notice the Skechers GOrun Forza running shoes give your feet more stability when running. It also has a molded heel counter and inner support strap for a stable and secure fit.
