All arrangements have been made. You’ve been anticipating this break, which you’ve fondly called “Mommy’s Day”, for weeks now. Hey, moms need a break too, right? You wake up that morning, stretch, and say, “Today’s the day!” All too soon the old nagging feelings of guilt and anxiety trickle in. “What if my little toddler gets into an accident? Malikot pa naman siya.” Or “What if he looks for me and doesn’t stop crying?” or “Am I a bad mom for doing this?”
Seize the Opportunity
Does that sound familiar? You’re not alone. I think almost all moms have over-developed guilt complexes—myself included. It was only recently, after 15 years of motherhood, that I was able to declare a 24 hour break just for myself. I seized the opportunity last weekend when my husband decided to take the family to the Pahiyas Festival in Lucban, Quezon. My husband magnanimously agreed to the plan. Relax, Re-energize and Do Things You’ve Been Putting Off
How did I spend my time? At home, I relished the silence and freedom I had to simply plan my own schedule for 24 hours. I caught up on my reading and watched videos that I had been putting off. I enjoyed a leisurely lunch with my sister-in-law. I finally had my eyes checked and had a scrumptious time waiting for my new glasses—having a capuccino and a slice of Brunn buttercake and immersing myself in a novel. What an exhilarating, relaxing, and re-energizing experience it was!
