Couple 'Date Idea': Get A Medical Checkup Together -- At HomeLove yourself first!by Lei Dimarucut-Sison .
Tomorrow being Valentine's Day, a lot of us are probably thinking of ways to make the day more special somehow, even if you're not one to celebrate it.
It's not to say that romance is dead. However, when you're married and have kids, you gain a deeper perspective of love and romance, and the ways you show your love to your spouse can take on different forms.
For inspirational speakers Edric Mendoza and Joy Mendoza, 19 years married, celebrating love means putting importance to themselves first, and no, it's not the selfish kind.
Staying healthy is of utmost importance, and they, as parents to six young kids, know this to be true.
"One of the most loving things you can do for yourself and your spouse is to take care of one another’s health. Prevention is always better, too," Joy wrote on Instagram.

And it's true. For how can you give of yourself to your better half -- which is the true meaning of love -- if you aren't well? The first step to ensuring this, of course, is to going to your doctor for a check-up.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Depending on your age, experts will usually recommend a set of medical tests as part of an annual well-woman or well male examination.
According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), primary and preventive heath care for women is divided into four intervals or age groups: 13-18, 19-39, 40-64, and older than 65.
For ages 19-39, or the child-bearing years, a well woman exam includes:
- physical exam - height, weight, body mass index, blood pressure, neck, breasts, abdomen, pelvis, etc
- laboratory tests like cervical cytology, diabetes screening, mammography, lipid profile, among others, depending on your family history
An adult well male examination, on the other hand, includes a physical exam, blood pressure screening, BMI screening, among others.
Love=keeping yourself healthy
Admittedly, going to the hospital to have these tests done can be a chore. And with the COVID-19 outbreak, it's even more important to be cautious.
On her Instagram post, Joy says that to celebrate Love Month, she and Edric are choosing to love themselves first and get some basic medical tests done right at home through the services of a well-known diagnostic clinic.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
"It’s good to get a baseline for cholesterol, thyroid (for me), kidney, liver, urinalysis and fecalysis. I know, it doesn’t sound romantic to do urine and stool samples! (For me, I like to know what’s wrong and not wrong with my body and health so I can do my part to be a good steward of it," Joy says.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
"I asked him if we can do this for Valentine’s. For me, this is more precious than receiving a bouquet of flowers."
A great Valentine date idea, indeed!
