Free public transportation for frontliners and health workers
Starting today, March 20, 2020, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) will deploy buses to offer free rides for health workers. Public transporation suspended under enhanced community quarantine
In case you missed it, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that the operations of all land transportation modes, such as public utility buses, jeepneys, taxis, FX, UV Express, Point-to-Point (P2P) buses, and Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) like Grab, have been suspended until April 13, 2020.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
The Manila Metro Rail Transit System Line 3 (MRT-3), Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2 (LRT-1 and LRT-2), and the Philippine National Railways (PNR) have also suspended their operations until further notice.
According to a previous SmartParenting.com.ph article, under the enhanced community quarantine, all motorcycles are restricted to only one passenger each. Services such as Joyride and Angkas have suspended their operations, except for deliveries.
Only one person from each household is permitted to go outside to shop for groceries and other necessities using a private vehicle. According to a bulletin from the Philippine Ports Authority, barangay captains are tasked to check for compliance with this rule.
No international flights leaving from Luzon starting March 20
Starting Friday, March 20, airports in Luzon will no longer be operating outbound international flights, Rappler reports. This means that travelers who plan to leave the country via Luzon only had until Thursday, March 19, to depart.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
CNN Philippines reports that inbound Filipino citizens, including their foreign spouses and children, Permanent Resident Visa holders, and Diplomat Visa holders will be allowed to enter the country despite the travel restrictions.
Note that according to the Office for Transport Security (OTS), inbound Filipino citizens cannot be picked up from the airport by their loved ones as this is considered non-essential travel, says CNN Philippines. OTS Undersecretary Raul del Rosario says the Transportation Department is working to provide these individuals transportation to take them to their homes.
