The 5 universal postpartum needs
1. Rest
Iza admits to having a "health scare" early on in her postpartum journey. She once shared that motherhood is "quite a punch," and that it was the most challenging yet fulfilling experience in her life.
"It may seem selfish to prioritize oneself after giving birth to a baby but it will make all the difference." --Iza Calzado
Although she didn't reveal what the condition was, she mentioned that it made her realize the importance of rest. "I learned to let go and delegate more to our angels at home because of this. Give yourself permission to rest, to sleep, when you can."

2. Nourishing food
Iza expressed gratitude for meeting experts who stressed the importance of appropriate nutrition during the first 30 days after giving birth. She consulted with a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor in Hong Kong and received a package of herbs and tonics to be made into soups and teas, aiding in her healing.

Iza mentioned the value of receiving postnatal massages, particularly in some cultures where mothers receive daily massages for 30-40 days, known as the "golden month." She wishes she had known the importance of this earlier and encouraged others to consider the benefits of regular massages for postpartum recovery.
4. Spiritual companionship
Iza acknowledged the support she received from friends and loved ones who visited her and her daughter, providing guidance and advice during her postpartum journey. Having spiritual companionship and emotional support is crucial for new mothers.
5. Contact with nature
Iza highlighted the importance of connecting with nature, even if it's as simple as looking out the window or taking a stroll in the park. She mentioned her visit to The Farm at San Benito in Lipa, Batangas, as an example of immersing oneself in nature. Watch our review of The Farm here.

"If you are reading this and you know someone who just gave birth, reach out and ask how you can support them through their journey. We all need it." --Iza Calzado
Iza has this to say to moms who feel like they don't have the same circumstances, "I suggest looking for other ways to get this support. Reach out to friends and/or family in advance. Book a nanny, cleaning lady or anyone who can assist you at home. Ask for help and support without guilt or shame — it does not make you a weak or bad mom. It can enable you to show up better for your child because your cup is filled."
She concluded, "If you are reading this and you know someone who just gave birth, reach out and ask how you can support them through their journey. We all need it."
