6 Ways to Soothe a Sick ToddlerKnowing exactly what to do can help your child feel better in no time!CREATED WITH PARACETAMOL (CALPOL)
There is no surprise that the leading cause of anxiety for any parent is a sick toddler, especially if he is burning up because of fever. Keep your cool with these six tips to help nurse your little one back to health:
Give lots of cuddles
A little TLC can go a long way in helping to soothe a sick child. Giving your sick toddler lots of cuddles is comforting and has a calming effect.
Give them nutritious treats
Chances are your tot isn't very hungry but needs as much nutrition as possible. Adjust mealtimes to suit your sick toddler's appetite. If he's willing to eat, give him nutritious meals and ensure that he gets enough fluids, especially if he has a fever, cold, flu, or bronchitis.
Use tools of distraction
Giving a sick child medicine can be such a challenge, even for the most persuasive of parents. For children who are less than thrilled about taking their medicine, keep them distracted by fun and engaging gimmicks. Read a book, sing a song, or play a game with them!
Lots of rest and sleep will help nurse your child back to health. Put your child to bed early and encourage naps throughout the day. Avoid situations that will over-stimulate your child, and keep the environment as quiet as possible.
Choose the right medicine...
A recent study reveals that as many as one in two parents don't understand the differences between children's pain and fever medicines.1 Keep in mind that not all medicines are created equal and have various risk levels of side effects.
… And stick to it
Alternating doses of different pain and fever medicines can be confusing and increase the risk that you'll overmedicate your child.
If you're caring for a sick toddler, make no mistake and choose Paracetamol (Calpol®). It is clinically proven to relieve 6 types of pain and fever2. Paracetamol is the first line treatment for children's fever and pain recommended by the World Health Organization3.
