  • Get Your Kids To Start Healthful Living At The World Vision Run 2016

This year's campaign aims to encourage kids to eat healthy with the guidance of their parents, here's what you can look forward to!
  • Perhaps one of your most pressing concerns as a parent is how to keep your child healthy. It can seem overwhelming at first but it's really very simple. The key is to start young. You have to make sure your child has the right building blocks, a reliable immune system and a lineup of very healthy habits.

Here's what you can do to encourage your kids to take care of their health, and to have fun while doing it!

    Join kid-friendly sports.

There are plenty of sports that your kids can do at home to keep them moving, and there are also those sporting events that will get them all pumped up and excited to compete in. The 500-meter Fresh Dash at the World Vision Run 2016 is one of those sporting events. It's perfect for kids who want to enjoy some healthy competition, while staying fit at the same time.

    Set a good example.

Kids follow what the adults around them do, and that counts for everything, from what you do to what you eat. If they see you eating junk food all the time, guess what your kids will crave for? Replace your junk food cravings for healthier options, like a Subway sandwich for merienda, and they'll soon follow your lead. Make sure to load up on the veggies!

    Keep things fresh.

Getting them out of their comfort zone to explore new things is a great way for kids to learn how to be inquisitive, creative, and to keep an open mind. Keep things fresh by introducing new sports activities for them to try, or new healthy sandwiches or dishes to gobble down. Kids love going through new experiences, and it helps them figure out what they like and don't like, building their personality in the process.

Connect it to something good for them.

If you want a good habit to really stick, it helps if you remind them of the good effects it has to their body. Like for example, when they choose healthy food over junk food, praise them for their choice, and tell them that because of what they did, their body will move better and they'll have less sick days spent in bed. It's guaranteed to stick more, rather than just saying what’s "good" or "bad" for them.

Help them find meaning in what they're doing.

A fun time is guaranteed for kids who will be participating in the Fresh Dash, and if getting healthier and fitter isn't a great reward enough, proceeds of the fees given by the participants of the World Vision Run 2016 will go to thousands of Filipino children all over the country. Telling your children that you're running for a great cause, to help other kids eat well and go to school, will make them proud of their participation. Now that’s a win-win!

Use activities to bond as a family.

In our hyperconnected, super distracting world, every minute spent with your kids should be made into an opportunity to spend quality time with them. When possible, join them during their sporting events, and not just in the sidelines cheering them on. Get in the field with them so that you can show that you not only walk your own walk, but you also give them your full and undivided attention.
