A great summer outing with your toddler or preschooler would be a trop to Ark Avilon Zoo—touted as the first and only indoor zoo in the country today. Located at Frontera Verde Ortigas (beside the Fun Ranch and Tiendesitas), this mini-zoo features a veritable menagerie of birds and over 100 other animals, among them farm animals like sheep, goats, a kalabaw, rabbits, an extensive aquarium, snakes and squirrels, crocodiles, a tiger, a jaguar and even a lion!
It has been designed with children (as young as toddlers and preschoolers) and families in mind—kids can actually interact with some of the animals; they can feed and pet them, even pose with them for photos. There is a snack bar, a souvenir shop and a pet shop too.
Visiting and introducing your kids to the various animals at Ark Avilon is also a brilliant way: To get them out of the house—seeing the animals up close and personal is way better than having them watch Animal Planet. To hone your child’s observational skills and teach them to be curious; ask who the biggest animal is; the oldest; what they eat, where they sleep, etc.To teach your kids about religion too! Since the zoo is housed in a building made to look like Noah’s ark, you can tell them about the great flood. To stay away from the malls.
