  • A is for apple, B is for banana, C is for ball. That's what you'll usually find in an ABC picture book. What if we tell you there's another way to teach letters to your child?

We found a beautiful and unique picture book that uses encouraging words to stand for each letter. The pop culture icons used to illustrate each letter and word is only an added bonus (for parents really).

Anne Faizuani, who also goes by the name Rafflexia, is a graphic designer and illustrator from Malaysia. Her artwork is frequently used to illustrate children's books in her country. Her latest project is this cool My First ABC board book filled with pop culture references that kids from over the world will recognize. You name it: superheroes, cartoons characters, Disney favorites, and the book probably has it (of course, there are only 26 letters of the alphabet).

With these illustrations, parents can also begin to teach values and instill good character traits because of the positive words that stand for each letter. We think 'reading' this picture book with your kids can only bring the whole family fun, sweet, and cherished moments. Look!

We're not certain if an e-book version of this My First ABC is included when you download the First Smile Baby Photo Book app (free on The App Store and Google Play). Anne also designed the apps' cute illustrations for the app developer Skyztree. But what you can do is follow the app's social media pages and use the online photos of the book's pages and read them with your child. We love hard copy books, but this online alternative also works for us. Just be sure to engage your little ones as you read with them. It's a plus if the kids have met these characters, but it's not a requirement. (Surely, they'll meet and fall in love with them soon.)

The app, which lets you compose photos of your kids as they hit their milestones or celebrate precious moments, promises that your baby's photo will be organized, safe, and secure looks neat as well. There's no harm trying it, right? For more information about the app, visit its website or follow its Facebook and Instagram pages.
