  • love lockNo matter what day or age, there’s always something wonderful about declaring your love for the people you hold dear in your life. And what makes it even more amazing is that when it comes to expressing love, people from all over the world can actually come up with one language for this.

The custom of love padlocks, for instance, has swept countries like Taiwan, Korea, France, Canada, Italy, Ireland and Russia. Also known as love locks, these are commonly affixed on bridges, fences, gates and similar structures by couples as a way of symbolizing their everlasting love for one another.

This tradition of love has now reached our shores with the birth of a restaurant in BF Homes Paranaque that seeks to rouse the romantic in every Pinoy’s heart.

In October 2012, pilot Gerard Paul Naidas was in Korea when he observed the charming tradition of love padlocks. Intrigued with the concept, he shared it with restaurateur parents Franz and Cynthia Naidas, who used to manage Tito Franz Restaurant, an in-flight catering business for Ayala Aviation and Cebu Pacific Air. The food-loving couple, excited to start a new food business, soon opened Love Lock Restaurant, the first of its kind in the country.

Customers can bring their own padlocks or avail of a kit which comes with a padlock, markers, engravers, stickers and a pair of hearts for the two people doing the love lock. These are  are fastened to a large heart-shaped fence which is seen upon entering the restaurant.
