    1. Chicken Karaage

    Take fried chicken a notch higher and make Japan’s famous chicken karaage at home. It’s got crispy skin, juicy meat and umami flavour -- what more could the kids ask for? Note: Mirin is Japanese sweet rice wine that’s used as a condiment to bring out the flavor of dishes.

    1/2 kilo chicken thigh fillets, cut into small pieces
    1 tablespoon garlic, diced
    1 teaspoon ginger, grated
    1 tablespoon soy sauce

    2. Tuna Pie

    Craving for tuna pie? You can recreate this savory treat at home! And yes, it will be cheesy, creamy and golden brown-crusted. For this you’ll need store-bough puff pastry which you can find in the frozen food aisle at the grocery store. Fry or bake them. They also keep well in the freezer so you can pop one out for merienda any time.

    Ready in 20 minutes

    2 tablespoons butter
    2 tablespoons white onion, finely minced
    2 tablespoons carrot, finely minced
    1 tablespoon celery, finely minced
    1 1/4 cup tuna flakes (about 2 155-gram cans)
    3/4 cup all-purpose cream
    1 cup cheddar cheese, grated (about 150 grams)
    Freshly cracked black peppercorns, to taste
    20 pieces store-bought puff pastry, cut into 4-by-2-inch rectangles
    1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water, for egg wash
    Vegetable oil, for frying

    Wanna impress the kids? You don’t need to prepare a fancy 4-course meal. All you need to do is to say you made potato chips yourself and you’re letting them season and flavor it anyway they want. Have lots of choices ready. You’ve got the usual cheddar cheese, barbecue and sour cream which you can find in powder form in grocery stores.     4 slices skinless pork loin or tenderloin (150-gram), about 1/2-inch-thick

    1 cup panko (japanese breadcrumbs)
