    Working mom Sarah Jane Magtibay prepares fresh food for her baby daughter Aeon Shiloh whenever she can. But on days that she can’t, she opts for commercial jarred baby food to ensure that her baby’s meal is handled safely by the yaya and is still considered preservative-free.  

    Local experts say that kids today are eating more processed food and less fruits and vegetables. “Parents think they can take shortcuts by giving their kids the same food every day, preparing processed food, or simply giving their kids vitamins or fortified milk. These supplements  do have nutritional value, but kids today are missing one important thing—fiber,” says FNRI nutritionist Cora Cerdena. Very rarely do kids name a vegetable as their favorite food. Makati Med dietitian Sally Diamse adds, “It is hard for parents to get their kids to eat veggies, but kailangan talaga nilang gumawa ng paraan.”
