  • If you and the hubby can't seem to find time to go out on a fancy dinner date, have one in the comforts of your own home. Arrange a simple table for two set-up at the garden or the patio, light some candles and you're good! This thick, juicy steak with potatoes recipe will satisfy even the biggest meat-loving appetites! Prep early, and pop it up in the oven before tucking the kids in bed.

    Prep time: 20 mins
    Cooking time: 20 mins
    Serves 4

    Here's what you'll need:

20 baby potatoes, sliced in half
    2 tablespoons butter
    1/3 cup sour cream
    3 tablespoons crispy bacon bits
    2 tablespoons green onions, chopped
    1 1 1/2-inch thick porterhouse steak, about 750 grams
salt and freshly ground pepper, to season
canola or vegetable oil, for frying
    1 tablespoon butter

    Make it!

    Preheat oven to 300°F.

2 Make the roasted marble potatoes: Boil potatoes in boiling salted water until tender, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain well. Place in an ovenproof dish and dot with butter.

3 Roast potatoes in the preheated oven or in a turbo broiler set at 300°F for 15 minutes or until edges are golden. Set aside and keep warm. Preheat oven to 400°F.

4 Pat steak dry and season generously with salt and pepper on both sides. Heat a cast iron pan or heavy-bottomed pan over high heat until smoking. Add oil. Sear steak on one side for 1 minute. Turn steak over and cook the other side for 1 minute.

Place steak on a chopping board and slice the meat away from the bone. Slice both sections into 1-inch pieces.

Arrange bone and steak slices in an ovenproof dish. Dot steak with butter.

7 Cook steak in the preheated oven or in a turbo broiler set at 400°F for 4 to 6 minutes for medium doneness. Remove from oven or broiler. Let rest for 5 minutes.

8 Place potatoes in a serving bowl. Drizzle with sour cream, and top with bacon bits and green onions. Arrange steak on a plate and serve with potatoes.
