The Busy Mom's Guide to Grab and Go School Snacks
  • Are your kids back at school or preparing to go back? Then you must be among the horde of busy moms faced with the daily dilemma of what to pack for their baon or snack. Don't fall into the trap of over-shopping, lest you end up spending more and letting food go to waste.

Make sure your kids baon is well-planned for the week (or the next couple of weeks) by trying these hacks for busy and budget-conscious moms:

Do some food prep ahead of time

Pre-cut fruits or vegetables into bite-size pieces so the kids can simply pop snacks into their mouth. Place them inside zip-top bags, one for each day of the week.

    Create a menu

Print out a list of items to choose from (use large fonts in bright colors). Make sure you have a good mix of healthy and kid-friendly options. Next, laminate the list, and give your kids an erasable marker to single out their choices.

Don't worry—this is just a one-time effort. Use the menu until you've exhausted all possibilities.

    Make their baon attractive

Appearance is key when making baon look exciting so that your kids will be motivated to finish their food. If making bento-style meals is daunting for you, try this hack: Use cookie cutters to shape sandwiches and cheese slices. That's it!

If you want to put a little more effort into the presentation, you can also arrange a variety of fruit slices inside a cute container with several compartments. (Check out samples here.) Arranging the food will be a breeze.

Set up a snack station at home

Change up the menu-ordering routine from time to time, and have your kids choose from a carefully planned snack bar at home. Place the snacks in small resealable bags and label accordingly, so it's easy to grab them in the morning. Practice the first-in, first-out policy at all times.

Always keep the kids' all-time favorites in stock

Make sure you always have Oishi Bread Pan, Pillows, and Choco Chug in the pantry. Make things interesting by buying these snacks in a variety of flavors. Bread Pan (P4.75 for 24g and P8 for 42g) comes in Buttered Toast, Cheese and Onion, Toasted Garlic, and Whole Wheat White Cheddar CheeseKids will surely love Pillows (P7 for 38g), whether it's a pack of chocolate- or ube-filled crackers. Oaties Choco Chug Chocolate Milk Drink is sure to be a hit as well, with Choco Chug Chocolate Milk Drink Rocky Road Flavor and Oaties Milk to choose from.
