  • Aside from the layout and provisions, for a lot of homeowners, what makes a kitchen great is the amount of storage space it has. We can't say we're surprised -- after all, there are a lot of things to organize in the area, including food and cookware.

However, installing a ton of cabinets isn't an option for compact homes. This doesn't mean you have to live in clutter, though. The secret? Getting creative with baskets, bins, hooks, and carts. Here are a few ideas you can try:

    Create a pegboard wall

Budget-friendly and unexpectedly stylish, pegboards are great for keeping the cooking corner spic-and-span. These wall wonders not only help keep your essentials in place, it can also double as a statement decor piece depending on how you dress it up.

Find pegboards at Wilcon Depot or any hardware store. Read here for tips on how to use a pegboard in the kitchen

    Invest in built-in bins

If you share space with little ones, it's important to invest in a wall piece that keeps breakables away from tiny toddlers, but low enough for the big kids to reach. This is an effective way to help them practice being organized, too!

Tip: This system doesn't just work for kids, it's great for sorting out belongings between roommates, too. Assign a bin for each one and label accordingly.

Find similar bins at SM Home, 5th Floor SM Makati, Ayala Center, Barangay San Lorenzo Village, Makati City and The Landmark.

    Install heavy-duty hooks

Prevent pots and pans from taking over your working area in the kitchen by putting them up in durable hooks over the stove. This also makes your cooking spot efficient as you no longer need to move away from the range if you need to switch equipment.

Find heavy-duty hooks at True Value, 6th level, Shangri-la Plaza Mall EDSA cor Shaw Blvd., Mandaluyong City.

    Use baskets for cookbooks

No shelves for your collection of recipes? No problem. Gather all your favorite cooking-related reads and arrange them in a vintage-inspired bin. Just like the pegboards, this can serve as an accent piece if you find the right nook to display it.

    Maximize rolling carts

From cleaning supplies to condiments, dinnerware and dry goods, it's safe to say you can store anything in these mobile pieces. You can even use it to set-up a vignette if you're looking for a way to squeeze in extra decor in your kitchen (as seen in photo).
