Buying your first property: What to consider
If like Cong and Viy, you are also starting to build your own family, here are some things that you can start pondering with. This is according to a licensed real estate consultant, appraiser, broker, and accredited lecturer Prof. Eden Dayrit, REC REA REB, from a previous story by Real Living.
1. Know your capacity to pay.
One way to do this is to get pre-approved by a bank to determine your capacity to pay and make adjustments if your dream home is above your pay grade. This will save you a lot of time and guesswork in determining and checking only homes you can afford. From here, you can decide whether you can buy a brand new house and lot, or a foreclosed asset through PAG-IBIG.
2. Make a list of non-negotiables
Together with your partner, this is one of the most exciting yet challenging parts of building a future home. Write down what are the important details that you want to have in your home, such as location, number of bedrooms/bathrooms, etc. This will help both you and your broker in finding the ideal home for you.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
3. Be emotionally and mentally ready
It's not every day that you get to buy a property, that's why you should be prepared for the emotional process that will bring out the best and worst in you. This is where a real estate broker becomes essential - in helping you make good objective decisions.
Once you're done with these three, answer these five questions before making the downpayment for your home. In the end, the decisions you will make now will impact you and your family in the long run.
