  • When your world crumbles, how do you stay strong for others?

Former actress Jackie Forster certainly knows how. While she revealed in February that her 3-year-old daughter Caleigh had been diagnosed with leukemia, her faith remains rock solid as her little girl undergoes long-term treatment.

She chronicles this journey on Instagram, and shares how Caleigh, despite the discomfort her chemotherapy sessions bring, has remained strong and cheerful. Friends and fans of Jackie have also expressed their support by using her hashtag #prayersforkikaycaleigh.

On April 15, Jackie posted the following video with the caption:

“Who came from chemo??? This girl never seizes [sic] to amaze me. Today was a short session but she still left waving at everybody with a smile, wanted to walk out on her own.. I asked her why she's so happy she said "because I'm done already!" When we got home she kept talking and even danced and did some karaoke. God is so good!”

As a show of encouragement, Jackie let Caleigh shave off her long locks:

As Jackie relayed to Smart Parenting via e-mail last March 27, she, Caleigh, and the whole family are staying strong and hopeful throughout Caleigh’s treatment. Read on and be inspired.

How did you find out about Caleigh's leukemia?

Caleigh was having low grade fevers on and off for about a week. On day five, which was a Friday, she got much warmer and because we believed it was best to take her to her pediatrician instead of exposing her to E.R bacteria and unnecessary poking and probing, we thought we would wait until Monday. We have had experience with dengue and also a few instances of hand, foot and mouth [disease], which is why we assumed it might be one of those. We were fortunate our pediatrician was a hematologist so he saw the signs right away and urgently directed us to the best oncologist in Kuala Lumpur.
