Unlike cleaning calendars that focus on daily and weekly cleaning tasks (dust, sweep, wipe), this chart provides a room-by-room cleaning guide for specific items, the ones we’re always forgetting and wondering how often we should clean them. The fact that it is beautifully illustrated (by Yumi Sakugawa) makes it a joy to hang it on the ref or tack it on the family’s message board.
You may have yelped when you saw the frequency for cleaning your bed sheets. But just think how many hours we spend on our bed sheets—at least six hours a night. If you or your spouse doesn’t sweat at night, you can actually do the washing it every other week.
If you want to use your bath towels more than the prescribed time, make sure that you hang them up and give them room to air dry thoroughly after each use. They will smell musty if they don’t dry it completely after use.
And, yes, we appreciate the chart for including ceiling fans. They tend to collect so much dirt and dust, not good if any of your family has asthma or respiratory issues.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW

This one’s a checklist from Good Housekeeping on how often you should wash certain items. We appreciate the tick boxes as they make it easier to keep track of things.
We like how the clothes are washed depending on how many times the item of clothing has been worn. This equates to less washing for pajamas, pants and towels, which is always good news in our book.
Dish towels are one of the dirtiest things in your home so it comes as no surprise that they should be washed and replaced daily along with hand towels and wash cloths.
It's easy to forget about shower curtains as you'd think they'd get a regular washing every time someone takes a shower. They, along with throw blankets, throw rugs and outerwear like raincoats and jackets, should be washed every three months.
When was the last time you cleaned your pillow? If you haven’t since you bought them, consider cleaning them now. And then, start washing them every six months along with comforters.
Now, print both these charts or save it on your phone!ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
