    4. Thinking of buying a ceramic ware set with gaudy, colorful floral designs? Bad idea. Ceramic ware that has many decorations or those that have been coated with metallic paint should be avoided because they often have high levels of lead. In particular, avoid those that have been decorated on the inside surface--that is to say, the part where you put the food in. In addition, make sure that all decorations are not painted on top of the glaze, instead, they should have been painted first before being glazed over.

    5. Don’t buy ceramic ware made by hobbyists or informal manufacturers. Never use items intended only for decorative purposes. Only buy from reputable manufacturers that adhere to strict international safety standards.

    6. Make a mental note to never use suspicious ceramic ware especially if you intend to microwave them or keep hot food or drinks in them. Remember that heat can speed up the process by which lead is leached.
