Mom We Love: Tuesday VargasTuesday makes us laugh, smile and adore her with her heartfelt tale of life as a single mom, finding true love and raising a son.
There are many things that people don’t know about comedienne, host, actress and TV personality Tuesday Vargas, known for being one of the judges on TV5’s reality show Talentadong Pinoy. Aside from making people laugh with her natural wit and sense of humor, this vivacious woman is also a photographer, marathoner, musician, loving wife to husband Coy Placido and mom to nine-year-old son Kaya.
But her life wasn’t all laughter. At the tender age of 20, Tuesday, Izel Sarangelo off camera, became pregnant with her then boyfriend. She was a graduating Film & Audiovisual Communication major from the University of the Philippines and was working on her thesis. At once a flurry of worries crossed her mind: How will I tell my mom? How will I finish my thesis? Will I graduate on time?
Facing Fears Head On
She recalls that it was the rain that helped her clear her mind, as if slowly washing away her burden. “Naisip ko na someone new will come into my life and I should take it like I always do – a challenge. Ganyan ako eh, very pragmatic ako pagdating sa problema. Instead of crying, which I did naman for an hour, nag-shrug na lang ako ng shoulders, tapos sige, ‘kaya ko ‘to.’”
It was because of this that she decided to name her son Kaya, after one of Bob Marley’s songs. “Kasi it was raining at the time that I found out I was pregnant. And that song is about enjoying the rain, the stillness, the calmness.”
With her strong support group of friends and unwavering sense of fortitude, Tuesday broke the news to her parents, who, though initially saddened, found grace in the gift of a grandchild.
“Nagulat si mama, nalungkot, pero okay naman,” says Tuesday. “Kasi apo ‘yun eh. Blessing ‘yun eh. Siguro, nung time na ‘yun, secretly, natuwa siya, kasi gusto na niya din. And my dad, wala, wala kahit anong nega. ‘Yay! May aalagaan na naman ako!’ Mahilig siya sa kids. Nagbati kami agad. My dad even took care of him for two weeks when I was looking for a job, when I gave birth, before he passed on.”
Like any other first-time expectant mom, Tuesday hit the books to read up on what to expect when you’re pregnant. She also made the decision to quit smoking. “When I started my first trimester, talagang wala lahat. Siyempre buntis ka eh. And I never went back. So I never smoked anymore.”ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWCONTINUE READING BELOWRecommended Videos
