See How The Homeowner Transformed His 20sqm Condo Unit

  • When Emir acquired this 20sqm studio unit in Quezon City, he didn’t have plans of renovating the space. After all, it will only serve as his "home in the city" where he can live and study comfortable while he's completing his studies in a nearby university.

Since the unit has white walls, Emir thought it fits a Scandinavian-inspired theme perfectly. The Scandinavian look is known for its bright and homey feel. Armed with a vision, he transformed the space without worrying about the unit's floor area. With the help of Hannah Banana Woodworks Shoppe, he created a dreamy compact home where he can relax, study, and invite friends over. See the inspiring before-and-after photos below:

Prior to the makeover, the unit seems gloomy, with one window letting in natural light. To make it functional yet homey, Emir complemented the white walls with wooden touches.

Furniture, built-in pieces, and accessories in white add to the airy and spacious feel of the space. The owner bought some of the seating pieces even before acquiring the unit in Quezon City.

As seen in many small spaces, Emir used mirrors to create an illusion of a bigger space. Multiple reflective panels installed above the wooden ledges get the job done.

To further maximize the available vertical space, cabinets were installed above the mirrors for extra storage. The clothes kept in the corner are now neatly stored in the bunk bed/cabinet.

The turned over tiny kitchen isn’t equipped for preparing meals. Aside from having a small countertop, it didn’t have cabinets.

To make it functional, the countertop was extended, with the extension serving as extra prep space while concealing the mini refrigerator underneath. Overhead cabinets, shelves, and extra storage nooks under the sink help keep clutter at bay. Before the unit’s renovation, Emir didn’t have a proper dining nook. The space between the kitchen and living areas became the dining nook completed with a built-in glass-topped table and white barstools.

Plants play a big role in making this unit welcoming. To keep it from being too plain and boring, Emir brought in houseplants to liven up the space.

Aside from the potted green wonders on a wooden shelf in the living area, there are also a few brightening up the work area near the window at the foot of the bed.

The bathroom also got a major overhaul.

Emir replaced the sink with a new one that comes with a storage cabinet underneath. More plants liven up the T&B, with wooden accessories and shelves in white completing the look.
