For parents, health is all that matters when a child is born and like most kids, Michael was also born healthy on December 4, 2018. His life and arrival brought completeness to his parents, Stuart and Emma Labuschagne.
However, some things in life come unexpected. On March 16, 2019 during his 5:00 AM feed, Michael had a heart failure. “We watched our baby breathless, gasping for air while his heart stopped and paramedics worked to save his life. In that moment I did not think Michael would make it through”, Emma posted on GoFundMe page.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Michael was put into an induced coma to protect his brain from further damage. After 5 days, the 14-week-old survivor woke up without any brain damage and flashed an adorable smile to his father.
Even so, the fight is not over yet. Michael was diagnosed with a rare tumor called cardiac fibroma – a 5 x 5 cm tumor that can block blood from flowing to his heart. “Every day is a constant worry as tomorrow is unknown. He had a pacemaker and defibrillator placed inside his stomach, but this is not reliable. No other treatment is available in the UK”, his mother shared in her Facebook video post.

The hospital is said to have a 100-percent survival rate on their cardiac tumor program for over the past 10 years. However, the journey will not come cheap. The quoted expenses for the surgery itself is about $147, 000.
