It’s a new month and three weeks since the enhanced community quarantine started to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Admittedly, things have been bleak: the number of confirmed cases has continuously risen, health workers are manning the frontlines lacking personal protective equipment (PPE), and doctors have sacrificed their lives fighting the disease.
But there have also been stories that uplift and give hope: local government units (LGUs) coming together with programs for their constituents, kind Filipinos doing good deeds for their kababayans, frontliners continuing the fight, families helping in their own ways, and most importantly, COVID-19 patients sharing their inspiring recovery stories.
Thanks to social media, more people are bearing witness to these stories that put a positive spin on our current situation. If you are in need of cheering up, here are two heartwarming stories we found that will put a smile on your faces and move you to (happy!) tears.
Patient makes a successful COVID-19 recovery
ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWIn a video uploaded by Unihealth Southwoods Nsd on Facebook, a female patient about to be discharged from the hospital was met with long, thunderous applause by doctors, nurses, and other frontliners who lined up at the hospital lobby of Unihealth Southwoods Hospital and Medical Center to send her off. According to the Facebook caption, the female patient is the hospital’s first “cured and recovered COVID patient,” and she was discharged after two negative tests.
In the video, the woman, whose face was half-covered by a surgical mask, was visibly emotional as she waved to the health workers in the lobby. The staff continued to clap as she signed a document, and she can be seen wiping tears from her eyes as she was wheeled to the exit. An unknown person could also be heard in the background saying, “Stay healthy, mommy! God bless!”
According to a report by GMA News, the patient, a 58-year-old woman, was the first positive case in Biñan, Laguna. She had been in the hospital for 20 days before fully recovering from the virus.

Uploaded by Sheila A Ngo-Sacro, the employees can be heard singing “Pagsubok” by Orient Pearl as the health workers film them with their smartphones.
According to a report by CNN Philippines, some of the hospital’s doctors and nurses have not gone home to their families since the start of the enhanced community quarantine. They are also restricted from having close contact with anyone outside the isolation ward to avoid possible infection. The hospital said the employees offered the song, “hoping to ease their feelings of isolation.”
In the caption, Ngo-Sacro writes, “Hope. Strength. Everyday heroes.” We couldn’t agree more. Thank you for everything that you do, our dear frontliners!
