Wow! Lola Sews Chair Cover That Doubles As An Adorable Play KitchenThe story behind the chair cover play kitchen is truly a gift made with love.by Jade Odette O'Leary .
A lucky little girl from Brandon, Memphis, appears to have been blessed with one very innovative, creative, and determined grandma — judging from a gift she recently created for her grandchild.
Images shared by dad Ben Ivey on Reddit and Imgur on January 16, 2018, show his daughter Madeline standing beside a super-cute chair cover sewn by her grandma, Merleen. The creative cover also doubles as a perfect play kitchen.
“My mom recently retired from teaching about a year ago. She started sewing as a hobby, and she babysits my daughter some weekdays,” Ben told Storyful.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Based on the finished chair cover-play kitchen, it looks like Grandma Merleen is a natural at sewing. Ben said his mother has “always been very creative and loves crafts.”ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
The creative lola got the idea on Pinterest and started to research patterns, but she ended up doing it herself all the way. “She had to learn to make this through trial and error,” Ben proudly shared.
She’s resourceful, too! All of the materials Grandma Marleen used were scraps and recycled fabric she got at a thrift store.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Ben also shared that his mom started the project just after Thanksgiving in November 2017, but due to the death of his father, Grandma Merleen wasn’t able to finish until after Christmas.
“This chair cover was kind of a labor of love to keep her spirits up and give her something to do after the death of her husband,” Ben revealed. It’s also one of a kind. Lola is not making any more chair covers.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Too bad Grandma Merleen is not turning her hobby into a business. While she also makes other sewn projects, such as custom bibs, towels, and embroidery, she mostly gives them away as presents to their church’s baby ministry. Aww.
