There's a unique sense of pride in achieving one's dreams. It's even more fulfilling when you do so while overcoming the challenges of a pandemic.
John Paul Cortes Lamoste, of Libona, Bukidnon, and his wife planned to build a dream home for their little family of four. They decided to have simple bahay kubo-inspired exteriors but with more modern interiors.
"Simple lang yung labas pero maganda naman tingnan dito sa loob, kasi hindi naman kami maka-afford yung malaking bahay,' John Paul shared. They even have a space for their own vegetable garden.
Construction of their dream home started two days before the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) was imposed country-wide. It was the first challenge they needed to work with. Only one person helped in building it because the other one wasn't able to come back due to the lockdown's restrictions.
The next challenge is budget as the pandemic has affected everyone's finances. The total expense John Paul and his wife spent on their home was P280,000, including the lot their home stands on, which is worth P130,000. It's not much, but they had to make do with the rest of their funds to pay for everything else: construction materials, labor, permits, and electricity connections.
After completing their dream home, John Paul proudly shared photos of on social media. "Kahit simple lang po 'yung bahay namin napaka-fulfiling," the dad of two related.
Little did the new homeowner know many would appreciate and love their simple bahay kubo. He was surprised that just by sharing their accomplishment, they have also inspired others to work hard and make their dreams a reality.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
