Daughter Shares Emotional Letter Written By Her Mom Before She Died

  • A woman from“New Haven, Indiana, shared an emotional letter left to her by her mother before she died. The letter contained some poignant advice that moved her to remind readers reminder to “hug your parents” while you still can.

    Hannah Summers, 18, a nursing student at Indiana University, shared the letter to Twitter on November 1, 2017. The message still resonates with anyone who had lost a parent.

    Hannah’s mother, Margaret ‘Peggy’ A. Summers, 55, died on October 31 after being diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer the summer of the same year. Peggy wrote each of her children a personalized letter before she died, in June.

    She began her letter to Hannah by writing: “If you are reading this, then the surgery did not go well.

    "Please don’t be mad, bad things happen in life, and we have to learn to deal with it no matter how much it hurts,” she wrote.

    “Remember that I am still with you and still just as proud of you as I always have been.”

    Peggy also mentioned that if Hanna would become a mother, to tell her future grandchildren that she loves them and that she would have wanted to see them. She also asked her daughter to hang on to the good memories of them together. “Tell everyone you love them as often as you can,” she wrote.

    Hannah shared photographs of the letter to Twitter on November 1, reminding everyone to “Please hug your parents a little closer and never take them for granted because you never know when you could lose them.”

    “It was so hard to read, but at the same time, it brought me so much comfort,” Hanna told The Huffington Post U.K. She added that the letters capture the type of person her mom was -- “always worried about others before herself and such a great mother to all of us kids.”

    The tweet had earned over 93,400 retweets at the time of publishing.
